Not having seen the first season of Top Chef, I didn’t know much about Harold Deiterle’s performance on the show. All I’d seen of his cooking was in the Season 1 vs. Season 2 challenge, which is to say, not very much at all. This past summer, he opened up his own restaurant - though, technically, he co-owns the place - Perilla. Finally able to get a reservation, I went with a few friends for dinner last week.

After enjoying a great meal, I asked to go out back into the kitchen to compliment and thank the chef. When we got back there, Harold was putting the finishing touches on an entree.

After exchanging handshakes and a brief conversation, Harold was back to work.
