It looks like the New York City CBS affiliate will get the Duke-Belmont game that starts at 7:10pm. My guess is that we won’t really be seeing much of this game - I truly hope we end up getting USC-Kansas State so I can see the last collegiate game for Michael Beasley or O.J. Mayo.
Pre-Game
In my bracket, I have Duke, Kansas State, Winthrop, and BYU advancing.
So far, through the first eight games of the day, chalk has been the order of the day with top seeds winning out. Will we see an upset in this window? I certainly hope so seeing as how I picked two to happen.
Start of Window #3
7:10pm: Who’s excited to see Duke blow out Belmont? I’m not.
7:12pm: Belmont opens the scoring with a three-pointer to take a 3-0 lead. Will this be their only lead?
7:13pm: Kansas State hits a three to take an early 6-2 lead. Why can’t we get this game? Thank god for MMOD even if the video quality is noticeably shittier than in years past.
7:17pm: At the under-16 timeout and Belmont’s played ok so far with the score tied at 7.
7:19pm: The big news at the under-16 timeout in the USC-Kansas State game is that Michael Beasley has already picked up his second foul. Kansas State leads 8-5 but how long can that last with Beasley on the bench?
7:22pm: Perhaps Belmont would like to put out a red carpet for Duke coming down the lane?
7:24pm: That was an awesome shot by Duke’s Henderson on the errant alley-oop pass by Scheyer.
7:26pm: Under-12 timeout and it’s close with Duke up 17-13.
7:29pm: Whip-around time as we look in on USC-Kansas State. Beasley’s back in the game for Kansas State - this could be a big mistake if he picks up a third foul before the half.
7:33pm: Good sequence for Belmont’s Wicke - he makes a three and draws a charge. Duke up 22-20.
7:36pm: Under-8 timeout and this is still a close one with Duke up 26-25.
7:38pm: Beasley streaks down the lane for the easy layup to give Kansas State an 18-12 lead.
7:41pm: It’s tied at 28 with just over 6 minutes to go. Belmont loves to shoot the three.
7:43pm: Under-8 timeout and Kansas State leads 23-16 despite Beasley only contributing two points.
7:46pm: Wicke hit his third three of the half to pull Belmont to within two, 35-33.
7:52pm: Paulus hits one of two free throws to put Duke up 38-33.
7:53pm: Campbell misses a good opportunity, not completing the three-point play. Duke up 38-35.
7:55pm: Belmont’s settling for way too many three-pointers.
7:56pm: Under-4 timeout and Kansas State is up over USC, 27-19.
7:59pm: Kansas State’s opened up a 10-point lead, 34-24.
8:00pm: At the half, it’s Duke leading Belmont 42-35.
8:01pm: We get switched over to USC-Kansas State just in time to see Beasley hit a shot and get fouled. He sinks the free throw for a 37-27 Kansas State lead.
8:03pm: At the half, it’s Kansas State leading USC 37-27.
8:04pm: Also at the half, Winthrop and Washington State are knotted at 29.
8:07pm: Some bonus coverage of the BYU-Texas A&M game and I’m disgusted by BYU only scoring 10 points in the first 13 minutes.
8:14pm: Under-4 timeout and Texas A&M leads 24-18.
8:18pm: With 2:31 to go, BYU has drawn to within 3, 26-23. Texas A&M started this game on an 11-0 run.
8:19pm: Offensive foul on their next possession and the ball goes back to BYU.
8:20pm: Three-pointer and it’s tied at 26!
8:21pm: Three-pointer and BYU has its first lead at 29-26.
8:21pm: Texas A&M returns the favor with their own three and it’s tied at 29.
8:23pm: Stupid foul by Texas A&M with 0.4 seconds to go in the half.
8:24pm: It doesn’t matter as the front-end of the one and one is missed. It’s halftime with the score tied at 29.
8:25pm: Duke’s run out to a 10-point lead, 49-39. Belmont needs to stop the bleeding or this game might get away from them.
8:27pm: Settling for three-point attempts won’t help Belmont. It’s 51-43 Duke at the under-16 timeout.
8:32pm: Duke can’t seem to pull away as Belmont has closed to within 4, 51-47.
8:33pm: USC has closed to within 4 of Kansas State, 42-38.
8:33pm: Three-pointer and Belmont is only down one, 51-50. 9-0 run for Belmont.
8:34pm: Duke responds with their own three to extend their lead to 54-50.
8:38pm: Under-12 timeout with Duke leading 56-52.
8:40pm Kansas State has just looked flat in the second half and USC has closed to within 2, 45-43.
8:41pm: Another three for Belmont to close within 1, 56-55.
8:42pm: Steal, shot is good and the foul! Belmont has taken the lead, 58-56 with 10:59 to go.
8:44pm: Great hustle on the offensive boards gets Belmont the ball with 9:04 to go and the game tied at 58.
8:45pm: Under-12 timeout and Kansas State still leads, 53-50.
8:49pm: Under-8 timeout and Duke leads, 60-58.
8:52pm: Big three for Kansas State to stretch their lead to 57-53.
8:54pm: Scheyer misses on a free throw to finish a four-point play and Duke leads 63-58.
8:56pm: After two free throws, Belmont closes to within 1, 63-62.
8:59pm: Timeout Duke, with a 65-64 lead with 4:48 to go.
9:02pm: Under-4 timeout with Duke leading 67-64. Duke looks tired but Belmont can’t hit the three anymore.
9:06pm: Kansas State is starting to pull away, leading 69-58 with just over 4 minutes to go.
9:07pm: Wicke hits another three to pull Belmont within 1, 69-68.
9:08pm: Under-4 timeout and Kansas State leads 72-60.
9:09pm: Two free throws later and Belmont leads 70-69. Timeout Belmont, with 1:40 to go.
9:12pm: Kansas State leads 74-60 with 2:12 to go and it’s safe to say they’re going to win this one.
9:13pm: Rebound to Belmont and they call timeout with 47.9 to go and a one-point lead.
9:15pm: Henderson goes coast to coast to give Duke a 71-70 lead.
9:15pm: Possession arrow to Belmont - they get the ball with 4.0 seconds to go.
9:16pm: Bad pass on the inbounds play and Duke gets the ball. They’ll shoot a one and one with 2.1 seconds to go.
9:18pm: They put some time back on the clock and now there’s 2.7 seconds left.
9:19pm: Miss on the front end and Belmont gets the rebound with 1.7 seconds to go. Timeout to setup their last chance.
9:20pm: Time back on the clock - now it’s 2.2 seconds to go.
9:20pm: Good luck in the pros, O.J. Mayo - Kansas State 80, USC 67.
9:21pm: Belmont misses at the buzzer and Duke holds on to win it. Duke 71, Belmont 70.
9:22pm: Washington State also advances - Washington State 71, Winthrop 40.
9:22pm: We get switched to the last game left in this window and Texas A&M leads BYU 57-53 with 2:51 to go.
9:28pm: BYU can’t convert on a three-point play. Texas A&M up 59-57.
9:30pm: Timeout with 1:13 to go and Texas A&M leads 61-57.
9:32pm: Three-pointer and BYU is within 3, 63-60, with 56.5 seconds to go
9:34pm: With a 66-60 lead and 14.7 seconds to go, Texas A&M looks like they’ll pull this one out.
