NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinals, Thursday Window #2 Live Blog

Cinderella and power teams - rock on!

Games played in this window:

  • West: Western Kentucky (12) vs UCLA (1) 9:4010:18pm
  • East: Louisville (3) vs Tennessee (2) 9:579:58pm

It looks like the New York City CBS affiliate will get the Tennessee-Louisville game that starts at 9:57pm. This game looks like it’ll be the best one of the night.

Pre-Game

In my bracket, all the teams I have advancing in this window are still playing today - UCLA and Louisville.

I can’t begin to describe how fucked my bracket got after Davidson upset Georgetown on Sunday. I had the Hoyas in the Final Four! To have them bow out in the second round was devastating.

Start of Window #2

9:40pm: West Virginia and Xavier are still going at it in overtime and the next game in the region is UCLA-Western Kentucky. It’s safe to say it won’t be starting now.

9:59pm: Finally, a game in the second window is under way! Louisville gets the ball to open the game.

10:02pm: 1:45 into the game and Tennessee’s Chism already has two fouls. That’s just stupid.

10:04pm: Tennessee puts pressure on the inbounds play and forces Louisville to call a timeout with 17:51 to go in the half.

10:11pm: Under-16 timeout and Louisville leads 11-7. Both teams love to run it up the court so this figures to be an offense-dominated game.

10:17pm: Seven turnovers for Louisville in under six minutes - that’s just offensive.

10:19pm: Seriously, Louisville, learn how to hold onto the fucking ball. You’re just lucky that Tennessee can’t even buy a shot.

10:21pm: This 2-3 zone from Louisville is giving Tennessee fits.

10:22pm: Tennessee calls timeout in the midst of 13-1 run by Louisville to take a 19-8 lead with 10:54 to go in the half.

10:23pm: After a terrible turnover on an errant long pass by Tennessee, we head to the under-12 timeout with Louisville still up 19-8.

10:28pm: Three-pointer by Louisville and it’s now an 18-1 run and they now lead 24-8. Bruce Pearl frantically calls timeout to stop the bleeding.

10:32pm: The clock stops on, what else, a Louisville turnover. Under-8 timeout and Louisville’s up 24-13.

10:40pm: Under-12 timeout and Western Kentucky’s keeping it close - UCLA leads 15-13.

10:42pm: Tennessee’s storming back as they now only trail 28-23.

10:44pm: A flurry of turnovers takes us to the under-4 timeout with Louisville leading 30-23.

10:47pm: Under-8 timeout and UCLA leads 20-13.

10:48pm: How the hell is Louisville leading by eight with 14 turnovers? Oh, right, Tennessee can’t shoot for shit tonight.

10:54pm: UCLA’s starting to pull away, now leading 28-15 with 6:42 to go in the half.

10:55pm: Halftime and Louisville leads 37-30.

11:01pm: Under-4 timeout and UCLA leads 30-17. Western Kentucky’s having a tough go at getting shots to drop.

11:12pm: At the half, it’s UCLA with the 41-20 lead. It’s rout city in this game.

11:20pm: Tennessee’s closed to within 37-34 with 17:04 to go. Louisville hasn’t scored yet in the half - Rick Pitino calls timeout to steady his team.

11:25pm: Under-16 timeout and Louisville leads 41-38. Tennessee will be shooting a free throw on the other side of the timeout.

11:30pm: Padgett just committed a stupid foul on the pick - that’s his third.

11:31pm: He makes up for it on a dunk on the breakaway, Louisville up 45-39 with over 14 minutes to go.

11:32pm: 8-0 run by Louisville to stretch their lead to 49-39. Tennessee calls timeout with 13:22 to go.

11:34pm: Stupid technical foul by Knowles and Tennessee hits both free throws.

11:35pm: Pretty pass by Padgett to Clark on the underneath cut - shot is good plus the foul. Free throw gives Louisville a 52-41 lead with 12:41 to go.

11:38pm: Tennessee gets the defensive board and calls timeout before Louisville can force a held ball. 52-44 Louisville with 11:29 to go.

11:43pm: Under-16 timeout and UCLA leads 48-32.

11:49pm: Two missed free throws from Padgett - that’s inexcusable.

11:52pm: Under-8 timeout with Louisville leading 56-47.

11:55pm: Tough way for Sosa to go on an offensive foul - he’s done for the game.

11:57pm: Pretty drive for Williams - Louisville leads 58-47 with under seven minutes to go.

11:58pm: No look pass from Williams to Padgett for the slam. Louisville now leads 60-48.

12:03am: Western Kentucky’s closed to within 56-47 with 9:47 to go.

12:04am: Three-point play and Louisville now leads 67-52 with 4:01 to go. The Elite Eight is near.

12:08am: We’re getting switched over to UCLA-Western Kentucky. UCLA’s lead has been cut to 61-55 with 7:07 to go. Somehow, this turned into a game.

12:13am: Collison commits his fifth foul on a three-point attempt - truly the worst way to go.

12:16am:Timeout with 5:10 to go and UCLA leading 65-59.

12:18am: Was this Bruce Pearl’s last game as Tennessee coach? Louisville 79, Tennessee 60.

12:18am: Big three from Shipp and UCLA stretches their lead to 68-59 with 4:30 to go.

12:21am: Timeout, Western Kentucky, as their season slips away. UCLA leads 74-62 with 3:10 to go.

12:23am: Under-4 timeout with UCLA up 74-66 with 2:26 to go. Evans will try to complete the three-point play for Western Kentucky after the timeout.

12:30am: Mbah a Moute goes two for two at the free-throw line and UCLA now leads 79-71 with 1:25 to go.

12:30am: UCLA rebound on a missed shot by Western Kentucky and this game may be over.

12:31am: Timeout with 1:11 to go and UCLA leading 80-71.

12:37am: Western Kentucky put up a fight but, in the end, UCLA just had too much firepower. UCLA 88, Western Kentucky 78.

End of Window #2

Two competitive games! I wouldn’t have expected that coming into tonight.
