Could this be why Plaxico brought the gun to the club?

Smith went out with friends on the night of Monday, Nov. 24, the day after the Giants beat the Cardinals in Arizona. He arrived home early last Tuesday morning - the Giants had the day off - and he was held up, apparently by the driver who took him to his home in a gated community in Clifton, N.J., according to a league source.

Shortly after being dropped off, Smith had a gun pointed to his head and was ordered to give up his jewelry and cash, which he did. The assailant then left the scene, and Smith called police.

In no way does this excuse what Burress did but it might explain his idiotic rationale. (via FanHouse)

Update: According to the Weekly World News, Burress has someone to blame for his injury:

After taking counsel with his lawyer, Burress finally surrendered to the police on Monday, with an explanation they were not expecting: Burress was aiming at a leprechaun who had been getting fresh with his wife!

Weekly World News tracked the leprachaun down for his side of the story. Seamus O’Shaughnessy said to reporters “I dinnea lay a hand on the lass tha’ she dinnea want! She made the first move sure as I’m standin’ here! He asked for an apology, an’ sure enough he got it! Not my fault if the daftie tripped over his sweatpants an nearly blew off his John Thomas.”

Well, that explains it all, don’t it? (via Deadspin)
