Watch out, Eric Gioia and John Liu, but the race for public advocate might get a little harder if Mark Green throws his hat into it.
“I am seriously thinking again of running for public advocate,” Mr. Green said, adding that he had been urged by friends and some Democratic leaders to run for the office, the city’s second-highest elective position. He said that since leaving office, “I realized how much I missed public service.”
He should expect to get some criticism and cries of hypocrisy if he does run for a third term seeing as how he was one of the most vocal opponents of Bloomberg’s proposal to extend term limits. I suspect, though, that his objection had more to do with the lack of voter input (and he probably dislikes Bloomberg too) than it did with the actual idea of extending term limits. Regardless, that’s the way system works now and he’d be a fool not to weigh his options. After he does that, he should probably opt to stay out of the race - it’s time for a new voice in city government.
