While out in San Francisco, I did what any baseball fan would do - I took in a game at the absolutely beautiful Pacific Bell SBC AT&T Park. While the name may have changed several times (a common occurrence given the nature of corporate naming rights), the stadium has stayed the same.

On the morning of my ill-fated flight back to New York, I walked a few steps from my hotel on the Embarcadero to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. Despite it being an early Saturday morning - yes, eight o’clock in the morning is early - there were a lot of shoppers.

On the second Sunday of June every year, San Francisco’s infamously hippie Haight Street is host to the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair. While it may claim to celebrate all things hippie and counter-culture, it’s a lot more generic street fair these days. Still, the unmistakable whiff of marijuana was prevalent so I guess that’s good enough.

Every year at WWDC, Apple throws a bash on the final night to close out the festivities. When WWDC moved to San Francisco, conference attendees would be bussed to Cupertino and the bash would be held on Apple’s campus. With the explosion in attendees the past few years, the bash was moved to San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens. As much as I would like to have visited the campus (the motherland), I’m fine with not having to take an hour-long bus ride.

Back in June, I attended Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Yes, I was there to see Steve Jobs unveil the latest iteration - as well as the latest drain on the wallet - of the iPhone. Beyond the press-oriented keynote speech, it was very much catered to the developers community. Some sessions were good but some just left me a bit lost since my developer background isn’t so deep. Perhaps a return trip next year will see some improvement on my end?

In order to bring craft beer to the masses, Beer Advocate held the American Craft Beer Fest at the Seaport World Trade Center. With the move from the much smaller Cyclorama came a larger crowd - from the old limit of 1,200 to up to 5,000 people at each session. The result was a lot more beer being served but a lot more douchebags showing up to get their drink on with little regard to appreciating beer - in effect, not respecting beer as the Alström brothers would want us all to do. Stupidity aside, we managed to have a good time, sampling the beers the brewers presented. I’ll look forward to their return to the Cyclorama for the Belgian Beer Fest in September.
