Tokyo → Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto → Sapporo

The experience going from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto on the Hokkaido Shinkansen, covering over 800 km in just under four hours and then onwards to Sapporo on the Hakodate Main Line, covering just over 250 km in… just under four hours. It’s safe to say there’s no beating the Shinkansen for speed on the rails in Japan.

I actually got into Sapporo a few hours later than I had intended due to my losing my seat reservation ticket for the Shinkansen which meant taking a later train. If anyone has ever traveled via Shinkansen in the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, you’ll know it’s quite the busy season. I managed to get a seat on a train about 90 minutes later than my original reservation but with an aisle seat but at least it wasn’t a middle…
