Hilton Mexico City Reforma

If you asked for my thoughts on my stay at the Hilton Mexico City Reforma | @hiltonmexicocityreforma based only on the first two nights, my response would have been “mid”. The lobby and executive lounge were really nice looking and modern while the room itself was decidedly dated. All in all, it wouldn’t have been an out-of-place experience with the Hilton brand itself as they tend to vary quite a bit (ask me about my stay in their London Euston outpost and you’ll hear plenty about the worser half of the spectrum).

On Day 3, with the key card not working already for the second time during this stay, I went back down to the front desk to get new keys and, while I was waiting, an employee off to the side asked how my stay was going. I tried being polite but he steered me toward saying that, yes, the room was very dated and it was in stark contrast to the executive lounge. He then introduced himself as Cem, the manager on duty, and proceeded to explain that the room hadn’t been refreshed since opening in 2003. He went on to say that the hotel itself was going through a renovation with the executive lounge and the floor it was on being the first to be done. “That’s great”, I thought, but that did little for me.

Cem then asked if I, as a loyal Hilton Honors Diamond member, would I like to move to one of the newly renovated rooms for the last two nights. Oh, hell yeah.

I thought the upgrade would be from a Standard (code for old) room to a Signature (remodeled) room - hell, it wasn’t even to an Executive room. Nope, it was to a Studio Suite on the executive lounge floor. This room was massive and way more modern than the original room. Thanks for the upgrade, Cem! It absolutely turned this stay around.
